Who do you think you are? Immediately on the heels of his baptism, where Jesus hears the voice of his father declare his identity with unquestionable clarity, the temptation comes. That voice that we all here, calling into question our belovedness. How does Jesus respond? How do we respond?

Who are you? How would you answer that question? Are we defined by our career, our achievements, or the things we do in our lives? 
Jesus says you are the light of the world, you are the salt of the earth. How are we sharing the light of Christ with the world? How are we seasoning the world with love and compassion?

What does "blessing" mean? Are we blessed only when life is good, or is there something deeper? When Jesus speaks the blessings of the beatitudes, he isn't commenting on our reality, but creating our reality. 

We are blessed because Jesus declares it so!

The day Jesus called his first disciples, they left everything and followed immediately. This was the beginning of it all, a revolution of love that would change the world. What we sometimes fail to see is the subversive nature of this story. They not only walk away from their old live, but they also walk away from quietly submitting to Roman oppression. They are ready to join the revolution. But Jesus, like always, surprises us. Rather than fighting back, Jesus creates an entirely new kingdom built on love, mercy, compassion, and grace. 

January 15, 2023: Baptism of Jesus - Pastor Josh

Jesus was baptized as a means to stand in solidarity with sinners, with us. Therefore following Jesus means walking with those with whom Jesus walks. 

Where have you felt compelled to step out in faith and walk with someone through struggles? Where is the Spirit leading you today?

What is the best gift you received for Christmas? The Magi brought Jesus their best material gifts. The went to find a king, but found the son of God. Jesus gives us the gift of himself.  May we receive this gift with joy, the Jesus would be revealed to us in our daily lives.
