The day Jesus called his first disciples, they left everything and followed immediately. This was the beginning of it all, a revolution of love that would change the world. What we sometimes fail to see is the subversive nature of this story. They not only walk away from their old live, but they also walk away from quietly submitting to Roman oppression. They are ready to join the revolution. But Jesus, like always, surprises us. Rather than fighting back, Jesus creates an entirely new kingdom built on love, mercy, compassion, and grace.
